Procurement Resource Analyses the Production Cost of Sulphuric acid in its New Report

Analyses Overview of The New Production Cost Report of Sulphuric acid

The new report by Procurement Resource, a global procurement research, and consulting firm, looks in-depth into the costs involved in the production of sulphuric acid. The comprehensive report analyses the production cost of the material, covering the raw material costs and co-product credit, equipment costs, land and site costs, labour wages, maintenance costs, financing charges, and depreciation costs. The extensive study describes the stepwise consumption of material and utilities along with a detailed process flow diagram. The report also assesses the latest developments within the sulphuric acid industry that might influence the costs of production, looking into capacity expansions, plant turnarounds, mergers, acquisitions, and investments.

Product Definition:

Sulfuric acid (American spelling and preferred IUPAC name) or sulphuric acid (Commonwealth spelling), often known as oil of vitriol in antiquity, is a mineral acid with the chemical formula H2SO4 with the components sulphur, oxygen, and hydrogen. It is a colourless, odourless, viscous liquid that is water-miscible.

Factors Impacting the Sulphuric acid Production Cost:

Sulphuric acid is employed as a catalyst in refining operations during the alkylation process. To feed the alkylation unit, a large volume of sulphuric acid is required. Over the projection period, the rising need for petroleum refining activities is expected to drive up sulphuric acid use. Furthermore, during the assessment period, metal industry applications increased. Metals are increasingly used in the automobile, construction, and other sectors. The metal extraction sector is expanding its production capacity to meet the increased demand for metals. As a result, there will be more opportunities for sulphuric acid to be used in the metal extraction business. These factors are expected to impact the production cost of sulphuric acid.

Procurement Resource Assessment of Sulphuric Acid Production:

The production cost report by Procurement Resource assesses the production of sulphuric acid via Wet Sulphuric Acid Process, via Double Contact Process, via Single Contact Process, and via Tail Gas Using H2O2 Abatement. In the production process of Sulphuric Acid via wet sulphuric acid process, hydrogen sulfide contained in the feed gas is burned, forming sulphur dioxide and water. Sulphur dioxide is converted to sulphur trioxide and then cooled to a temperature where it reacts with water in The gasses phase and forms sulphuric acid, which is then condensed and concentrated to about 98 wt%.

The production of Sulphuric acid via a double contact process involves sulphur being burned to form sulphur dioxide, which is further converted to sulphur trioxide. Sulphur trioxide is changed into sulphuric acid, using double-contact double absorption (DC/DA) process with a high concentration sulphuric acid solution in water. Likewise, the production of sulphuric acid via a single contact process involves sulphur being burned to form sulphur dioxide, which is then converted to sulphur trioxide. Sulphur trioxide is converted to sulphuric acid by absorption with a recirculating sulphuric acid solution in water in only one column.

The absorption column off-gas comprising sulphur dioxide is not recovered in this process. Besides, the production of sulphuric acid via Tail Gas Using H2O2 Abatement involves contacting the SO2 with an aqueous scrubbing solution of sulphuric acid containing hydrogen peroxide in a gas-liquid communicating mechanism in which the liquid brushing phase is made in the constant phase during the real contacting. In this process, the acid concentration of the scrubbing solution can be as high as 99 percent + by weight H2SO4. The process is useful in the abatement of sulphur dioxide from waste gases created during the manufacture of sulphuric acid and also for abating SO2 from other stack gases, thus alleviating pollution problems. Further, the hydrogen peroxide oxidizes the sulphur dioxide to H2SO4.
