Product Definition:

Water in its gaseous state is referred to as steam. Water can be boiled or evaporated to produce steam. While saturated or superheated steam is invisible, actual steam or wet steam is frequently created when water vapour condenses. Steam is traditionally produced by heating a boiler and burning coal or other fuels, but it may now be produced using solar energy as well. At normal temperature and pressure, the enthalpy of vaporisation is the amount of energy required to convert water into a gaseous state as its volume grows by 1,700 times.

Factors Impacting the Steam Production Cost:

Coal is the most often utilised fuel in thermal power plants to convert water to superheated steam. Because its volatile content ranges from 8% to 33% and its ash level ranges from 5% to 16%, bituminous coal, also known as brown coal, is frequently utilised as a boiler fuel in India. One tonne of steam takes 118.5 kilogrammes of BB-coal, of which 83% is raw coal (98.4 kilogrammes). In 2021, China was a major contributor to the increase in coal prices. A supply shortage worsened demand, which was aggravated when China refused to continue trading coal with Australia. Moreover, the price in China reached an all-time high of 223 USD/MT in October 2021. These factors are expected to impact the production cost of Steam.

Procurement Resource Assessment of Steam Production:

The production cost report by Procurement Resource assesses the production of Steam via Boiling Water. In order to produce Steam, water is heated at standard temperature and pressure. As the water starts to boil at 1000C, its evaporation takes place, thus, leading to the formation of Steam.
