Ammonia Industry Report: Analysis and Forecast 2022-2027

Regional Category Spend, Price Analysis, Key Demand and Price Indicators, and Best Buying Practices by Ammonia Industry Report

The Ammonia was valued to be worth 64.3 billion in 2021. In the projection period of 2022-2027, the industry is expected to grow at a CAGR of around 1.5 percent, achieving a value of around 70.31 by 2027.

The Ammonia industry report broadly studies the industry, together with important segments, movements, drivers, constraints, the competitive landscape, and other critical market features. The primary factor of the sector is a rising demand in the agriculture sector, which has led to increased consumption of ammonia in thermoelectric polymer biosynthesis technologies and explosions manufacture. The Asia Pacific is the biggest category spender by region which is impelling the demand for the Ammonia industry.

Ammonia: Industry Definition and Segmentation

Scope

Ammonia is a nutrient chemical with the formula NH3. Ammonia is a light, flammable gas with a pungent aroma. It is both abrasive and toxic in its condensed form, and it is found in the environment primarily because of microbial degradation of animals and plant substances. It is also been identified and is extensively used in spaceflight. Besides, ammonia is regarded as an incredibly dangerous chemical in many countries, and companies that manufacture, transport, or use massive volumes of it must observe rigorous guidelines and regulations.

Category Drivers

The end-use sectors affected by ammonia used include pharmaceuticals, agriculture, pulp and paper, textiles, and mining. Ammonia is utilised to generate amines, nitriles, hydrogen cyanide, hydrazine, hydroxylamine, ammonium carbonate, phenol, urea, and amino acids, among other medications and chemicals. Ammonia is widely used in the manufacturing of medications, vaccines, fertilisers, and other end-use applications around the world. The market is moving forward due to the product’s broad application in detergents and cleaning products. Ammonia is very good at breaking down home filth and eliminating stains from tubs, sinks, toilets, worktops, and tiles produced by vegetable oils, fats, cooking grease, and alcohol. It also evaporates quickly, making it simpler to wash glass clean without stains.

Furthermore, the market is expanding due to increased demand for ammonium nitrate in mining and explosive applications. Other factors, such as product innovations, such as the use of sustainable technology to create green ammonia, are projected to move the market forward.

Category Insight by Region

The Asia Pacific region led the global market, with China and India accounting for most buyers, and this trend is expected to continue. The geographic expansion of market participants has become more noticeable in European and East Asian countries. This is due to efforts to meet the demand for ammonia-based goods, get access to high-growth markets in Europe and the Asia Pacific, and expand their global market position.

Because ammonia is widely used in fertilisers, the agriculture industry is the key driver of the ammonia market. Governments have also directed separate industrial chemical businesses to develop new chemically treated fertilisers. Farmers’ awareness of the need to grow higher-quality and quantity crops has raised the demand for ammonia, which has acidifying and soil-conditioning qualities. Experts believe that NPK/NP fertilisers contribute to the rise in ammonia use, which is expected to continue in the future. This is due to an increase in demand for mining and agriculture in developing countries as their populations grow.

Category Management Studies

In a typical modern ammonia production, natural gas, liquefied petroleum gas, or petroleum naphtha are all transformed into gaseous hydrogen. The method of steam reforming is used to produce hydrogen from hydrocarbons. In the Haber-Bosch process, hydrogen is combined with nitrogen to produce ammonia. The first stage in the process is to remove sulphur compounds from the feedstock since sulphur deactivates the catalysts used in the succeeding steps. Catalytic hydrogenation converts sulphur compounds to gaseous hydrogen sulphide to remove sulphur from feedstocks. The gaseous hydrogen sulphide is then absorbed and removed by passing it through zinc oxide beds, where it is converted to solid zinc sulphide.

After that, the sulphur-free feedstock is steam reformed catalytically to generate hydrogen and carbon monoxide. In the next stage, which involves catalytic shift conversion, the carbon monoxide is changed to carbon dioxide and extra hydrogen. The carbon dioxide is then absorbed in aqueous ethanolamine solutions or adsorbed using a proprietary solid adsorption media in pressure swing adsorbers (PSA). Catalytic methanation is the final step in the hydrogen manufacturing process, and it eliminates any leftover carbon monoxide or carbon dioxide from the hydrogen. The hydrogen is then catalytically combined with nitrogen (made from process air) to make ammonia, which is the desired product.
