Procurement Resource Analyses the Production Cost of Vinyl Chloride in its New Report

Analyses Overview of The New Production Cost Report of Vinyl Chloride

The new report by Procurement Resource, a global procurement research, and consulting firm, looks in-depth into the costs involved in the production of Vinyl Chloride. The comprehensive report analyses the production cost of the material, covering the raw material costs and co-product credit, equipment costs, land and site costs, labour wages, maintenance costs, financing charges, and depreciation costs. The extensive study describes the stepwise consumption of material and utilities along with a detailed process flow diagram. The report also assesses the latest developments within the industry that might influence Vinyl Chloride production costs, looking into the capacity expansions, plant turnarounds, mergers, acquisitions, and investments.

Product Definition:

Vinyl chloride, commonly known as vinyl chloride monomer or chloroethene, is an organochloride having the formula H2C=CHCl. This colourless chemical is primarily utilised in the production of polyvinyl chloride, a kind of polymer. A total of 13 billion kg are generated each year.

Factors Impacting the Vinyl Chloride Production Cost:

The increasing usage of PVC across a variety of sectors in the region has contributed to the region’s growth. The PVC market is expected to grow rapidly in emerging nations like India, Vietnam, Indonesia, and China, with applications expanding in industries such as automotive, construction, and manufacturing, among others. These factors are expected to impact the production cost of Vinyl Chloride.

Procurement Resource Assessment of Vinyl Chloride Production:

Procurement Resource’s production cost analysis examines the costs of producing vinyl chloride from ethane, acetylene, ethylene, chlorine, and ethylene dichloride. Vinyl chloride is made directly from ethane and chlorin in the initial manufacturing phase. Ethane, together with regulated amounts of chlorine and oxygen, is delivered into an autothermic (self-sustaining) cracking zone. A volatile liquid is used to quench the reaction mixture, which consists mostly of ethylene and hydrogen chloride. To convert ethylene, hydrogen chloride, and oxygen to ethylene dichloride, the quenched mixture is passed through a catalytically activated oxyhydrochlorination zone with oxygen.

The ethylene dichloride generated is sent to a second cracking zone where it is converted to vinyl chloride products and hydrogen chloride. Hydrochlorination is used in the second production phase to make vinyl chloride from acetylene. Using acetylene and anhydrous HCl, as well as catalysts such as mercuric chlorides, the hydrochlorination process is required to make vinyl chloride. The third ethylene manufacturing process is a balanced process that combines direct chlorination and oxychlorination with EDC thermal cracking to produce vinyl chloride. To begin, EDC is made via direct chlorination of ethylene and chlorine. The thermal breaking of EDC then produces vinyl chloride. The hydrogen element is removed from ethylene dichloride in the fourth ethylene dichloride synthesis phase, yielding vinyl chloride as an intermediate chemical.
